Quem somos
Uma organização não-governamental sem fins lucrativos, formada por profissionais atuantes na área do direito ambiental e na área técnica, destinada a promover a proteção do meio ambiente.O Conselho do Instituto Justiça Ambiental é formado por promotores de justiça, advogados, professores, biólogos e veterinários, de renome nacional e internacional.
O Instituto Justiça Ambiental é apoiado pela Fundación AVINA, entidade criada para impulsionar o desenvolvimento sustentável da América Latina por meio da construção de vínculos de confiança e alianças frutíferas entre líderes sociais e empresariais de maneira exitosa e responsável.
Diretor Executivo: Cristiano Pacheco
Cristiano Pacheco é advogado e consultor em meio ambiente. Mestrando em Direito Ambiental pela Universidade de Caxias do Sul (UCS) como bolsista institucional, Especialista em Direito Ambiental pela Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPEL), Graduado em Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais pela Universidade Luterna do Brasil (ULBRA). Membro suplente da diretoria de educação do Instituto Abolicionista Animal (IAA) e membro da Comissão de Meio Ambiente da OAB/RS desde 2003. Integrante do grupo de pesquisa Alfabetização Ecológica, Cultura e Jurisdição: uma incursão pelas teorias da decisão, coordenado pelo Dr. Jeferson Ditz Marin. Ex-diretor executivo do Instituto Justiça Ambiental (IJA), ex-diretor jurídico e ex-conselheiro do Instituto Sea Shepherd Brasil (braço brasileiro da Sea Shepherd Conservation Society – SSCS), onde atua voluntariamente desde 1999. Integra a Plataforma Ambiental da France Nature Environnement (FNE) sediada em Paris, França, ligada ao governo francês e União Européia para a certificação da madeira oriunda da Amazônia, membro da Shark Alliance.
Com atuação profissional junto a organizações não-governamentais, escritórios de advocacia e empresas de grande porte, possui experiência em contratos, construção civil, mineração e petróleo. Trabalhou no escritório Siqueira Castro Advogados Associados (fusão TNT/Mercúrio) e foi assessor jurídico interno da Zandoná Mineração e Terraplanagem (Grupo Zandoná). É procurador em diversas ações judiciais ambientais e na primeira ação civil pública movida na América Latina contra a pesca de arrasto marinho ilegal, tombada pelo Patrimônio Histórico do Tribunal Regional Federal da 4ª Região diante da relevância social e ambiental envolvida. Advogado pioneiro no Brasil na interposição de ações civis públicas em defesa de cetáceos (golfinhos) no Amapá e elasmobrânquios (tubarões) na costa do Estado do Pará, iniciativas com repercussão internacional em veículos como Folha de São Paulo, BBC News Londres, The Independent, BBC News Asia, El Mondo, Bloomberg Businessweek, Agence France Presse, dentre muitas outras. Lecionou dezenas de cursos e proferiu palestras do Rio Grande do Sul ao Amapá. É autor de diversos artigos em livros e congressos nacionais e internacionais.
Em 2009 recebeu o Prêmio NAVIMECO "Amigos na Natureza", na Sede da Polícia Federal de Natal/RN, pelas mãos de Rose Dantas, da Nature Viva Mangue (NAVIMA), em reconhecimento aos esforços em defesa dos cetáceos (golfinhos) no Brasil, decorrente de ação judicial exitosa ingressada na Justiça Federal de Macapá, no Amapá, via fax.

Instituto Justiça Ambiental (IJA) [Environmental Justice Institute] is a non-profit, non-governmental organization constituted of lawyers, prosecuting attorneys, teachers, doctors and experts in environmental law, as well as teachers, doctors and technicians in veterinary medicine, zoology, ecology and biology. Its founders and staff have national and international reputation in the area of Environmental law and environment. IJA develops a serious work and is committed to protecting the environment and is supported by Fundación AVINA, and its executive director is lawyer Cristiano Pacheco.
Cristiano Pacheco is an attorney and environmental consultant. Holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Law from Universidade de Caxias do Sul (UCS) where he attended as an institutional scholarship student, Specialist in Environmental Law from Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPEL), Undergraduate Degree in Social and Legal Sciences from Universidade Luterna do Brasil (ULBRA). Member in Ecological literacy, culture and jurisdiction: a foray into decision theory research group (UCS), coordinated by Professor Jeferson Ditz Marin. Alternate member of the Board of Education of the Instituto Abolicionista Animal – AAI (Abolitionist Animal Institute) and a member of the Environment Commission of the OAB/RS (Brazilian Br Association of the State of Rio Grande do Sul) since 2003. He is a former Executive Director of the Instituto Justiça Ambiental – IJA (Environmental Justice Institute), former General Counsel and former Adviser for the Instituto Sea Shepherd Brasil (Institute Sea Shepherd Brazil) (Brazilian branch of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society – SSCS), where he works voluntarily since 1999. He integrates the Environmental Platform of France Nature Environment (FNE), headquartered in Paris, France and the Shark Alliance.
Professional experience with contracts, construction, mining and oil, worked for Siqueira Castro Associated Lawyers (TNT/Mercúrio company fusion) and Zandoná Mineração e Terraplanagem. He is also attorney in several environmental lawsuits and the first public civil action (class action) filed in Latin America against illegal trawler fishing, listed as a Historical Heritage of the Federal Court on the 4th Region due to its social and environmental relevance involved. A pioneer attorney in Brazil in the interposition of public civil actions on behalf of cetaceans (dolphins) in Amapá and elasmobranchs (sharks) off the coast of the State of Pará, Amazonia, initiatives with international repercussions in vehicles such as Folha de São Paulo, BBC London News, The Independent, BBC News Asia, El Mondo, France Presse, Associated Press, Bloomberg Businessweek, among others. He has taught dozens of courses and gave lectures from Rio Grande do Sul to Amapá. He is the author of several articles in books and national and international conferences.
In 2009 he received the Award NAVIMECO "Friends of the Nature" in the Federal Police Headquarters in the northern city of Natal/RN, from the brazilian biologist Rose Dantas, President from the NGO Nature Viva Mangue (NAVIMA), in recognition of his efforts in defense of cetaceans (dolphins) in Brazil, resulting from successful prosecution entered the Federal Court of Macapá, Amapá.
IJA uses the environmental law as strategy to enforce the law and pressure productive chain, environmental agencies and government to promote sustainable, modern and intelligent alternatives to natural resources explotation, combining law enforcement to a growing vision of harmony and respect for all living species.
